BULLITT article in SFO chronicle

Anthony Bologna, David Kunz, an police officer and film crew members got interviewed for an article in the SFO Chronicle article published on Sunday 26th. October. Although there are again a few errors like the 3 Chargers mentioned and a few others, the author Peter Hartlaub went the extra mile in research.

What's faster than a Fast Forward Mustang?
Very easy for BULLITT enthusiasts to answer.

THE FF BULLITT
ebay and Hot Rod get the credit for the project idea and the thrilling basic illustration, yet Sean Sweeney generously gave it the subtle understatement such a car needs for getting around with the cops. FF is an additon of myself and might ring a bell for insiders knowing about the Ferguson 4-wheel-drive concept realised back then on 65 and 69 Mustang over here in Europe, so this would be another nice addition to the supercharged base Fast Forward project.

Catching the BULLITT spirit once forever.

Brad and Bob succeeded where Ford tried very hard - to catch the spirit of BULLITT in a picture of both the 2001 and the 1968 BULLITT Mustang.
This artwork has the right balance of both vintage and Model IV and you can check around in the picture, you'll nowwhere find something that is disturbing the dense atmosphere of simply COOl. Congratulations to Brad and Bob and those 2 deserve the BULLITT award of the Year for this picture - exclusively for 1968 BULLITT owners and visitors of this site.

Think again - you might want to allow Ford to take a promise back

Please do so for Ford's pocket sake.

Sometimes we might need to give Ford some relief...
As soon as visions and ideas are spread on the web about a new BULLITT, owners of 2001 BULLITTs remind of the Ford promise to build a limited series for 2001 only. Well, o.k., this is quite understandable and driven by Ford itself with special promotion stuff, licencing, certificates etc. plus necessary to protect the name rights of Warner Bros. and Chad McQueen. All o.k, and then, isn't there a small bit in your backhead that it would be a real sorrow, if this nice rendered car would not appear on the roads. It will, rest assured, either the official way or the customers way.

More on these visions on Vyto's page, who was kind enough to share his artwork with us. Look here

The BULLITT DIORAMA
Carl Bosman from Cape Town, South Afrika created this excellent diorama

Introducing Carl Bosman, 51 years of age and living in Cape Town, South Africa. Proof for worldwide BULLITT Mania: "My hobby is that of collecting 1:18 scale die-cast models and mounting them in dioramas. Ever since I saw the Bullitt movie back in the 60's I was absolutely hooked on McQueen and the Mustang. I have been battling for a very long time to lay my hands on the Mustang from Autoart and Charger from Ertl in order to build a diorama of that famous chase..............eventually, about two months ago I struck it lucky and started with my diorama. With the assistance of the video I purchased about a year ago, and watching it repeatedly, I finally finished it (well apart from a street sign that still has to be added here and there). So I thought I'd share this with all you loyal & devoted Bullitt enthusiats out there (like me) to enjoy." Yes, we do, thanks Carl.

Wade Koch, president of Bullitt Nationals Inc. (which is a spin off of the International Mustang Bullitt Owners Club (IMBOC) with over 1600 registered 2001 Bullitt owners is looking for something special for this years FFW:

"Last year we had our 1st Bullitt Nationals in conjunction with the Fun Ford Weekend (FFW) Mustang World Finals, at the Texas Motorplex drag strip in Ennis, Texas (Dallas area). We had over 60 Bullitts display and race! During the action on Sunday we made a parade lap down the strip with all the Bullitts in front of over 1000 spectators and were given a spot in Muscle Mustang & Fast Ford magazine. During the parade lap we had a gentleman with a '67 replica lead the parade and later park his car in the Bullitt display area with the other 60 2001 Bullitts!
This year we're looking for a '68 Bullitt replica as well as a '68 black Charger to lead the parade and/or display with us for the event! Actually anyone is invited, but you must have a Bullitt to park with us."

David Kunz replica appearing in new "Torque" movie

David reports:

"This was on the set of a new film called "Torque" where a jet-powered motorcycle is stolen. They filmed the street scene many, many times with my car parked near the flatbed tow truck. Using computer effects, the bike was shot separately and will appear to "fly" up the ramp."

A BULLITT look-alike feeded by FINN AIR

I stumbled over this excellent and race-proven BULLITT look-alike while attending a finnish FoMoCo-day in June 2003. Kari Blank has a sense for BULLITT-rides and what is a better place to enjoy it than opening the throttle to maximum speed at a racetrack. The sound was very close to the real tune in the movie. Thanks to M&F editor Jeff Ford for mentioning our website. Make sure you get your copy for a nice reading. There are some errors in the article, but.... you know, there have been a lot more errors in the past 30 plus years on this topic. Hope you enjoy your stay here for the most accurate information acc. to current knowledge.

  Replica collection restructured

The international BULLITT replica and look-alike collection has grown over the years, so a sort of restructuring was necessary. 3 subpages are now online with Germany, USA and the rest of Europe being covered. I hope we can add more nations soon :).
New in town is Shauns 390 powered look-alike in the UK.

Never hand your BULLITT to a cop!

Our fellow Gunter G. did so and almost regret it. Being contacted for the rental of his dark green metallic 67 GT 390 for a famous TV series called "Tatort" (crime spot) initially he was really enthusiastic, so agreed to the contract.

Famous Kommissar Schenk and his assistant Ballauff were sitting in the car in front of their famous Pommes Frites trailer spot and discussed the latest development of the case. In another scene he had to back up the car and - being probably overwhelmed by the power of Gunters throughout modified big block engine - he hit a wall. Gunter got 'his case' finally clarified with the producers company. He got the money for the repair and the re-paint which is just now in progress. By now he is a bit more relaxed and can even watch the "Tatort" again. .

A nice personal touch

Shaun had somebody create a nice BULLITT style drawing of his replica. The creator sells these individual "artworks" for 40 pound sterling. Contact via www.chinga.co.uk/stu-art/ .

BULLITT featured on cover and inside "Cars in Films"

A new book published by Haynes called Cars in Films has our favourite, o.k. second favourite Charger flying on top of its cover and some unique pictures courtesy of Warner/Solar/Pictorial Press Ltd. inside. A 2 page feature shows some backstage shots and contains a short description of the movie. Shaun from the UK brought this to our attention. The book sells for 19.95 pounds Sterling, which is about 30 Euro/Dollars. It was written by Martin Buckley (a famous author of the Classic and Thoroughbred Cars magazine) and is available via www.haynes.co.uk or www.amazon.com.

Updated design created by Sean

Modern Mustang vs Charger revenge

Jan did what Max Balchowski did then on the Charger, he put skinny tires - at least up front - on his 68 'stang to slow it down and give his Charger a chance for a 2002 revenge. Well, velocity makes the difference in this case and the Mustang wins. Many a Charger guy has visited the site to strengten the fact that the Charger could have easily won the chase back then in 1968. Now what's about this modern staging, guys? But wait, Jan has a receipt for Charger's velocity as well, hmmmm. We'll keep you updated how it's gonna be this season.
If you want to have a closer look at Jan's treasures in the flatlands of Europe, look here.

2005 BULLITT?

Never ever would a 2001 BULLITT Mustang owner accept another series in 2005. A limited series remains a limited run or it might loose its value. Well, I'd guess not and then..picturing what it would probably look like does not hurt. Sean Sweeney shared the idea and 'digipainted' a Bullitt vision of its own class. Like it or not, be sure some Ford guy has already thought about it....., but closed the case in favour of the new 2005 Shelby G.T.350, that is already a project.

"Thrilling appearance of Davids replica in Fast Lane"

News from David
"Okay, it isn't Masterpiece Theatre, but there is a new action series on the Fox network. You may have seen the premiere episode in which a (replica) GT-40 does a cartoonish spiral jump through the air. The show is billed as a cross between "21 Jump Street" and "The Fast and the Furious."

Well, in the 3rd episode they pay tribute to "Bullitt." The premise is that the squad (a fictitous LAPD unit that gets to play with a bunch of cool cars and motorcycles that they've seized) gets ahold of the actual Mustang that McQueen drove in Bullitt. In the opening of the show, Tiffani Theissen spends a little time caressing the car as a prized possesion. The two guys who work under her then swipe the car and get involved in all matter of mayhem.
The episode has been aired on 25th. September 2002. More pics here.

A piece of the BULLITT Charger

34 years later unearthed!
George M. was one of the few drivers to be on set everyday of the chase. He also saw the daliles of these shots. But here is what he says in his own words:
"In the Spring and Summer of 1968 I was a chauffeur in San Francisco and worked as a driver for Solar Productions, on the production of the movie Bullitt. I read on your web site about the black chargers. There were indeed two. One for filming outside in and one for inside out. The one that was destroyed in Brisbane, certainly was burned up and was towed away. But, there is one remaining article of the vehicle and is in my possession.
It is a piece of the front grill with the chrome letters "er" still attached to it."

More about this new eye witness report soon.

Artwork Masterpiece

Artist name unknown

An enthusiast sent us this artwork masterpiece. Many asked to see a poster, but due to licencing problems the artist finally preferred to stay away from any commercial marketing. So unfortunately this nice artifact will remain in the living room of an anonymous BULLITT enthusiast.

Peter Yates alive and kicking

Randy McInally sent us this interesting News:
"Hi, I am employed as a special effects props builder in Toronto, Canada. I am also a Mustang freak and Bullitt fanatic, having first seen the film in a movie theatre in 1968 when I was 12 years old. It remains one of my favorite films, so I was very excited earlier today to meet in person the director of that fantastic film, Peter Yates. He is in Toronto directing a film called "Separate Peace" for Showtime, a U.S. cable channel. He graciously agreed to sign a photo for me, posed for a picture, and even signed my AutoArt Bullitt Mustang, which I purchased only a week ago. By all accounts, he is a well humoured and all around pleasant gentleman to work for. He was not aware of the Bullitt merchandising going on, but his children told him about the new Mustang Bullitt from Ford in hopes he might buy them one ( according to Mr. Yates). Meeting Mr. Yates was a fantastic once in a lifetime opportunity for a Bullitt nut like me, so I thought I'd share the experience with you. I think your website is great and visit it often. Keep up the good work."

Sheryl Crow's new video 'Steve McQueen'

David Kunz and his BULLITT replica had another great day with Sheryl Crow and her video team while filming thrilling sequences for her latest album, resp. new single 'Steve McQueen'.

Could this be the next BULLITT 2004?

The Automobile Magazine published an artist rendering of their vision for a 2004 Mustang. It does not took long to inspire enthusiasts around the world to create a BULLITT version of this one. I hope the artist does not take this as a copyright violation, it is not, it is a new piece of artwork - it is in my eyes a possible BULLITT 2004.

Panther Productions from Down Under finally filmed the Chase Scene for the movie LIZZI. Here are some preliminary shots taken from the Super 16mm film thanks to Stephen Huthnance.
"Well we have just finished filming the 68 GT Mustang vs 65 GTO Pontiac chase . The whole thing is awesome. It was a big adrenaline pump for everyone there. The engine sounds are great and were captured on the DAT. The camera car was a new V8 Commodore. The team work was excellent and everyone was buzzed out for a few days."
