Booth building work has commenced at the Cobo Hall and Ford is setting up its 2-level booth.
Spys inside spoke already of a  motion display or platform that could tell a story. Ford had introduced augmented reality displays already at the NAIAS 2017 and such kind of simulator.
Will we see a Bullitt SFO ride simulator at the booth this year? We had 3 years ago a group from SIM racing "The CREW" who finished  a long-time project to create a detailed San Francisco 3D area model and a Bullitt Mustang/Charger pair, so it could easily be used by now for a chase scene 2018 simulator.
Update: Ok, they set-up rather a small "studio" for creating your own Bullitt chase scene.

I've been part of reliving the chase scene. When a 1968 GT390 pops up with a McQueen double at the Dunsfold aerodrome and at a Ford dealership in West Sussex/UK, there is Mystery in the Air.
If it's accompanied by a 1968 Charger R/T and staged at the same spot, it smells as if fresh and vintage rubber will melt together.

Check out our initial teaser with stills of what happened in West Sussex recently. It started at the Dunsfold Aerodrome with a simulation of the Cotati Raceway scenes.

Preparing the 2018 Bullitt Mustang Launch in January 2018 ponysite.de walked an extra mile. Be ready for surprises around the launch.

Update 7th. November:
With just a few hours time left with my Bullitt maniac mates on site and a new GoPro camera bought the day before....we did a quick predictive commercial of how we think the 50th Bullitt Anniversary will open your eyes and create an hairrising moment.
"Steve and Bill come out of the past chasing each other with their 1968 well known movie cars. They've made an appointment at a local Ford dealer to testdrive the Mustang and trade in the original 1968 movie car, if it holds up to their requirements. Upon arrival the dealer has a little unexpected surprise, but wasting time is not Steves attitude, his mind is set for another chase. Will he trade in his original movie Mustang for the 2018 version at the 50th. Anniversary press conference? Stay tuned....

Overlook the few glitches in filming. Less than in the original movie at least. Remember we just had a few hours, just one trial and we were all too excited in performing.

An episode of SUPERGIRL featured a Bullitt Mustang.
Glen Kalmack is the proud owner, who gave this car to the film team. "They were very polite and careful with the car".
As most of us know that is not allways the case, if you hand out the keys to have your car featured in a series or movie.
Congratulations to Glen for another opportunity to showcase his nice and detailed car to the audience.

Those who wondered, where the Charger from Arnold Welch ended up, it came to Germany with Chrome Cars, a movie car collector company and shop, which acquired one of the Eleanor Hero cars recently. They also have 2 GM Futureliners.

Both cars  - the Eleanor and the 68 Charger - were on display last weekend at the Motorshow in Berlin.

The original Bullitt Mustang licence plate is again on the market. After being auctioned in London and recently claimed by Raphael Garcia as having been acquired for the Mexican Bullitt, obviously it is in other hands, as we heard and know.
Now on the market for 25.000 Dollar. For sure it has a much higher value this year than last year. Which one of the owners will try to catch it or which collector is going to raise the price. It will be certainly a last minute suprise. No bidders yet.

September 15th-20th.
Unfortunately we could not get the car down for the Fox and Friends TV interview show with Barbara McQueen due to logistic reasons.
Anyway here is a pic of what could have been there at the Breakfast Show with Barbara McQueen talking about the new movie.

An authentic Bullitt style Mustang 390 GT in original DHG color with the right patina to look like it was just kept in a garage after the movie filming.

Barbara McQueen was on site to talk with Ainsley Earheardt about the theatre screening. Watch out to the Tuesday 26th Breakfast Fox and Friends show and the 28th.Sept. theatre screening of the movie next week.  If the "McQueen-Jesus" linking around the movie promotion isn't disturbing to you, it will be certainly a good party to join. On September 28th, 2017 in selected US cinemas you can see a documentary from Pastor Greg Laury narrated by Garry Sinise about McQueens last road filling the growing gaps in his soul after all the drugs with christianity.
The title is Steve McQueen: An American icon and it was directed by Jon And Andrew Erwin and Ben Smallbone based on a story from his widow Barbara McQueen. Could be worth to see
it.

If you open your garage door and see this, you probably immediately fall into the specific coolness mood and walk over, look over your shoulder outside, slide into the drivers seat, buckle up, watch through the window, focus on the turning of the key, push the pedal a bit and a sound comes to your inner ear of Lalo Shaffrin immediately.

So does Larry Smith more often since he restored his 1968 390 GT that he owns since 2002.
Read more about his background and thrill of owning his outstanding car.

We've heard of a new feature movie called GT390 The Movie, starring Andre Brooks as Steve. The movie is about an hollywood icon searching the famous GT390. Directed by Joey Eddie, the movie will be edited by Harvey Mushman, which speaks for thrill and quality for the final sequences.

Andre owns a 1967 GT390 himself, no wonder he has had an interest in making this movie and then again with a little bit of visagist art, his face and hair turns into that of Steve. The look and feel was easy for Andre after putting on a McQueen race overall.
Looking forward to the movie that will tour festivals in 2018.

David Redhead had one more show appearance with his buddy and the Mustang/Charger pair.

Shown here is the McQueen dummy in Davids Bullitt Mustang on stage at the American Speedfest in Brands Hatch/UK last weekend. Exciting display next to the winners award stage.
The Speedfest itself is a blast. Make sure to visit it at least once, while you are in the UK in June.

Steves Charger and Davids Mustang got a lot of attention,  especially during winners award ceremonies.

May 26th., 2017  - update June 3rd.
The 9th Friends of Steve McQueen Show  took  place June 3rd, 2017

Anthony Bologna participated again and donated some cool items.

Here is his report:

The Friends of Steve McQueen car show was another great success. This year show theme was the movie "SandPebble".

Friday night sold out dinner with live auction was MC  by Channel's  7 David Kunz

Saturday morning over 400 entry where displayed at their very best. A silent auction was presented during the no host cocktail and through the Saturday car show

Another successful year with proceeds breaking last year's numbers. The next 10th 2018 show is already announced with the feature theme "Bullitt".
BTW I met Barry and Elvira Kemp from UK at the dinner, they came over just for the show. I am on left in the picture with David in the middle and Barry on right.

Don Gordon (Guadagno)passed away.
Don took the name Gordon to become an actor and he lived next to Steve McQueen enjoying bike riding for a while with him.
He also played a role in Bullitt, so for sure worth to mention here.

My Day with the original Bullitt car.
From Federico Garza

We have asked Federico for a report on his best day in his Mustang life.  He promptly sent us his personal impressions to share.

Who else would not like to have the opportunity to sit in a car of historic movie provenance - the original Bullitt Mustang
.

Read his exclusive day report here!

01.03.2017 (updated 3rd of March)
2nd Bullitt Mustang 8R02S125558 found !
This and other pics appeared yesterday on Facebook and caused a worldwide buzz. Federico Garza presents us the car that he was allowed to sit in down in Mexicali/Mexico.

Pictures show the VIN stamp on the fenders and the door tag. Federico got notice of the car by the owners themselves.
One of them had turned in the VIN to Kevin Marti and got the response that this VIN belonged to the 2nd Bullitt car.
What a surprise. Upon a business visit of Federico, the owner Ralph Garcia narrated the story and of course it spread from there.

Actually the car was found in a Los Cabos neighbourhood backyard and bought by Hugo Sanchez with his comrade Ralph. The car is said to have been legally titled in Califonia, a copy was on display at the staging "Farewell to Mexicali" and the history trace of the past 20-30 years at least is partially known.

Link

Kevin Marti has confirmed the VIN and door tag to be legit on site.
Hugo Sanchez did initially not know what he had before, he had in mind to build an Eleanor out of the 68 Mustang, that was white painted over red and the original DHG and in very bad shape. While restoring it, they sent the VIN to Kevin and it was Kevin, who wanted to see the stamped VINs of it and then got interested, telling the owner that this was the second Bullitt car.

After that Federico Garza rang the alarm bell on Facebook and it seems, the adventure found a happy ending for the owner.

The car was actually taken within 24 hours over the US border by Jim Warino to the custom shop of Ralph Garcia in Southern California. It will be restored within the next 8 months with other pieces obtained.

What driver Jim Warino stated:
"Well, I wanted to wait til it was authenticated by top car data specialist Kevin Marti (and down in Mexicali yesterday it was. I have a friend Ralph in Mexico. I have been helping him, who is now co owner, for a couple of months on it and now the news is out world wide. Ralph took me to a great Taco Restaraunt, when I was there a week and a half ago to check out the car and give him ideas.  Pastor Greg Laurie is doing a Steve Mc Queen documentary and sent Core Church Pastor (also a former Mustang owner) Steve Wilburn and 2 cameramen to shoot the 3-4-17 vent.  I attended  the Mexicali "Bullitt Leaving Mexico Event" yesterday (with my Bullitt clothing attire I quickly found). It was well attended. Now I will help track some of the parts missing. The car was bought for under $5000.00 and in its present shape it is valued in the millions. " Jim Warino.

Some comments received on the door tag:
Actually K.Marti says in his own tag book, that at San Jose the change to tags with rounded corners took probably place at the end of January. This car was scheduled for the January 9th. Any closer VINs out there to this number?

We will be back soon with "My day with the 2nd Bullitt" article from Federico. Stay tuned.

Here is the car pictured as it resided in a Baja California Los Cabos back yard for a long time, the CA title is obviously a later one, not the original pink slip from the 60ies.
The owner bought both of these cars for 5000 Dollar. Scraping away the white color, the original DHG was found underneath another red layer of paint. Roof and floorpan were completely replaced during the initial restoration, the Marti report for the VIN was requested late in the process.

A better idea
Most Bullitt replica owners strive for the original Dark Highland Green. Looking at it, most later will admit that it is a tick too light in certain environments.  Movie actor Lou H looked at many a 1968 DHG car and always thought something was wrong, so he went the extra mile to think in McQueens ideology of a matching color. Standing out and truely unique - making his Bullitt replica special. I think he had that better idea and the result is very much convincing. Watch it coming with us and we will tell you more about Lous affiliation with the movie itself.

06.02.2017
Rumours about a 2018 BULLITT SE spread quickly, after a design was spotted in a Ford commercial backscene video with Dwayne Johnson.
For sure there will be a new Mustang in the Bullitt dress for the 50th Anniversary of the 1968 movie.
The car would be an easy seller and generate profit for sure. Anyway it is a must for Ford to get this one out.

Exclusive on Ponysite:
The third Steve McQueens "LE MANS" Racing Suit unearthed plus helmet.

You may have followed the auctions of Steve McQueens first and second "Delaney" racing suits back then in 2011 or in 2015. The first one catched roughly 750.000 Dollar, the second still 425.000 or so.
Ever since it was known that 3 were on the set, but no one was able to follow the trace in over 45 years. Thanks to our club member Frank Wrobel, who is a good friend of genuine Le Mans Porsche race driver and Le Mans movie stuntdriver Juergen Barth  and is researching all things Le Mans since he can think, we've heard about the third race suit with the famous movie name Michael Delaney.

The first suit was in the hands of an italian former movie production employee, the second was raffled off in a UK magazine competition and handed over by Richard Attwood back then.
This third racesuit actually was raffled off in a german magazine competition and kept for over 45 years within one families ownership, for most of his life in the attic.
Through Frank and Juergen only the widow and son  learned what the value of their hidden and well kept treasure is worth today or could be worth, if auctioned. They have not yet made up their mind, but we are sure it will hit the auction scene soon through an attorney selected.
Remember you read it here first.

Congratulations to Frank Wrobel and Juergen Barth who shared their research adventure with our First Mustang Club of Germany 1964-1973 e.V. in the last club magazine.

Frank could also retrieve the helmet and gloves of Johann Ritter (Fred Haltinger) and add them to his collection.

RIP Robert Vaughn
Sad news came in this morning from several contributors.

Robert Vaughn, counterpart of Steve McQueen in our famous movie Bullitt died at the age of 83.

Robert has been an actor in movies and on stage for most of his life and remained even to those that know him only from Bullitt and Solo for U.N.C.L.E as a real character in their minds.
A movie actor that deserved and got a lot of respect from the public and the producers for his talent and performance.
We are with his wife and daughters in these days.

Glen Kalmack has finished his Bullitt replica, he says. Can we really trust in that?

I am not so sure, since we know Glen, always on the hunt for that extra detail.

But to our suprise he now took a bit of liberty in adding a 5-speed stick obviously and an LED illuminated dashboard.
And I must admit, it has something seeing all the instruments one time much clearer. I think I will go for that upgrade as well.

I think we will hear more from Glen.
Enjoy the pics for the moment.

Publishers choise pictured above, still I think this picture on right taken during the Making off should have been selected.

The 2017 calendar project from last year finally became reality. Frank Panacchi Jr. can now enjoy the result of the photoshooting, at least for a month in 2017, which is May.
Not sure if he can wait until then. "My car is different since we did this photoshooting at the Golden Gate bridge." he said.
Well it is famous like Lt. Bullitt's was back then.

Review from Anthony Bologna

The Friends of Steve McQueen 2016 held their “The Getaway” themed car and motorcycle charity benefit on Saturday, June 4 at the Boys Republic in Chino Hills, California. The 9th annual event, which is co-chaired by Chad McQueen and Ron Harris, is held in support of the Boys Republic and in memory of Chad's dad, Steve McQueen

I had a chance to experience the behind the scenes, of what it take to put together such a successful Friday night dinner, auction and a car show on Saturday.

I flew in on Wednesday morning from San Francisco to Chino California to volunteer my services  two days before the Friday night dinner and car show on Saturday. With their crew of dedicated volunteers, including boys that are part of the "Boy Republic", Peter, Dunkel and Ron Harris they created a magical experience for all.

What is becoming the Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show brings thousands of spectators, with hundreds of cars and motorcycles displayed throughout the campus — from American muscle and classics to rare European sports and race cars. This year the event has raised over $750,000.

The “911 BR” project car was also displayed during this year’s show. The fully restored, 1980, air-cooled 911, was developed and financed by supporters of the Boys Republic through a Kickstarter project. The build was handled by Bisimoto Engineering. Support throughout the build was provided by the Boys Republic, the McQueen Family, McKenna Porsche, Brad Boyle Motorsports and The Dunkel Bros.

The “911 BR” btw was auctioned through Mecum this year August in Monterey with all proceeds going to the Boys Republic.

This years show included a couple of events to go along with the Commemorative Dinner on the evening of June 3rd and the Car Show on the 4th. May, 14th and 15th, the Friends of Steve McQueen had their inaugural Steve McQueen Rally from Malibu to Santa Barbara as mentioned further down.

All proceeds from the 2016 Friends of Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show benefit the Boys Republic.
