Hi fellows,
this site is very good. I'm here to share info on the Sprint convertible registry.

I purchased my 2nd 1972 Mustang Olympic Sprint Convertible in November 2003. I also owned another one of these rare cars for a short time in the 1980's when Dick Smither from Illinois contacted me. Mr. Smither had been tracking these owners of the fifty sprint convertibles and I met him at the Mustang 30th anniversary in Charlotte.

After Mr. Smither passed away in the late 1990's I sent out a letter every year letting the current owners know I would maintain the owner registry that Dick started. In the summer of 2003 I got a call from one owner saying he was interesting in selling his car. I had seen this car back in 1985 and even had a picture of his next to mine.
I went to check it out and it still had the original dealer sticker on the trunk lid. We agreed on a price and I was once again the owner of one of the fifty sprint convertibles that were made for the 1972 Washington DC Cherry Blossom parade. A 302 powers the smooth riding car and the automatic FMX tranmission has been trouble free.

This car had never been in a car show and was driven sparingly by the previous owner who lived only a few miles away. It's 90% original with all the sheet metal, interior and convertible top just the way it came from the Dearborn Assembly Plant. I drove it 500 miles to the MCA 40th anniversary where four sprint convertibles were gathered and over 300 miles to the Grand National show in Youngstown where there were three on hand including Bill Johnsons recent purchase of one.

My car is the second from left and the only one unrestored in this picture from the MCA 40th.

In April, 2004 I drove it in the annual DC Cherry Blossom with yet another sprint convertible. To date I have located thity-seven of the original fifty red, white and blue convertibles.

There is even one in Norway and another one found its way to Sweden. Please be on the lookout for the missing ones.
