The History of #148623
Famous 1969 #16 car of George Follmer. Wrecked at Riverside by George Follmer in 1969 when a wheel broke going into the pits. Purchased by Richard Rodeck in 1982.
"The story that Richard told me, was that he went to Bud Moore's shop looking for the cars. At first he could not find any T.A. Boss's. A third party told him that they were at the back of the shop in the bushes. Well Richard went back and looked and found car number 148623 (now Vic Edelbrocks car) and car number 112074 (now Don Hodges car). Well Richard turn in his airline ticket and rented a U-haul truck and trailer and took both cars home. Richard paid $500.00 for both cars in 1982." Gus Tarrab
Lance Coren bought the car from Rodeck in 89 and had Richard Rodeck do the car. Don Hodges did the bidding on the car and took the money for his brother-in-law Lance to Richard. Painted by Rodeck later. Finally restored until 1992. Currently owned by Vic Edelbrock.
This is one of the few that still has the original Twin-1050 cfm Holley
Dominator carbs with the original "IR" (individual
runner) experimental high rise intake manifold, with the offset
distributor (although it was not installed on the car).
The car is presently fitted with an original Bud Moore Mini-Plenum and
Holley dual feed 4V as of early 2002. The car has been restored to exact 1969 Riverside specifications.
Quote from Hemmings: "Two Mustangs in particular set all-time high sales prices (for public
sales that is), the George Follmer No. 16 1969 Trans-Am Mustang and a
very early 1965 Shelby GT350, which sold for $85,320. Vic Edelbrock
entered the winning bid of $319,660 for Follmer's old SCCA war horse;
which includes in its history the bad luck of having a wheel break while
Follmer was leading the final race of the trouble-plagued '69 season at
Riverside, with the end result that the car collected the pit wall.
Restored during the mid '90s, No. 16 has already turned some laps at
Laguna Seca, and knowing the Edelbrock family's inclination towards
vintage racing, this important piece of American racing history will be
seen and enjoyed for many years to come."
