Special Note: According to an
interview with Claude Dubois in May 2001, there was no sales literature for the
Shelby Europas printed due to low budgets and low number of sales, however Edwin
van Beurden/NL unearthed some specification sheets including a price list. At
least something must have been available.
Claude Dubois has not yet authentified
this material, but we are going to ask him again .

TThe engine of the 350 GT is a modified version of the
engine mounted in the Mustang. A Shelby-kit is added that improves the
carburetor and intake. The same engine in the 500 GT version has much more
important improvements and include specifically a special Shelby camshaft, a
Shelby-Mallory ignition system, a Racing Holley 780cfm carburetor and special
hydraulic lifters, that allow a rpm range up to 6000 rpm.
The 429 (7030ccm) engine, that is available on special request in the 500 GT "7 litre" version, is derived from the Ford V8 Super Cobra Jet engine and it is equipped with a special cam with long duration on the intake valve side. The valvetrain is mechanical, the rods are forged as for stock cars, (d'un vilebrequin relant-moteur?) and it has a special damper. The engine is ready to make more than 400 HP SAE with an incredible torque (64kgm at 3400U/min). Fuel consumption of this big engine is proportional very low due to the wide rpm range and typically lower number of gear changes. |

Rear axle: Modified for heavy duty operation with a limited-slip differential and 3,25:1 ratio for up to +/- 220km/h at 5.400 U/min. Shorter or longer ratios optional. |
Steering: Power assisted steering, almost 1:1 at high speeds and servo-controlled for manoeuvres at low speed, offers a special road surface sensitivity. The special smaller diameter steering wheel improves steering as well as the special front suspension geometry (settings).

Suspension: The front suspension is a independent wheel set-up with helicoil type springs and competition stabilizer bar. (and shock absorbers for the ferior bumps). The shocks are reinforced and can be set for different operating conditions like competition shocks. |

The additional mounted original Shelby equipment adds a
lot of improvements related to the serial Mustangs performance in terms of road
driving, comfort and performance besides the different appearance and exterior.
The 500 GT versions, with the 5,7 litre or 7 litre engine, not only have a
special high performance engine for maximum high speed. The fact of buying a
Shelby has its own important advantages as to the individual and personal
after-sales service and spare parts, that could be otherwise not found in Europe. |
