Mustangs
in Syria then and now: Back in the 60ies import of Fords to Syria was forbidden due to political boycott arrangements. Therefore not many originally imported Mustangs are there today. Maybe only a dozen bypassed the borderlines. Anthony - our reporter - knows of 3 of them One is in Aleppo today and is owned by a friend of Anthony, a red convertible. Another convertible belongs to the brother of the president, said to be white with blue serifes, still garaged today. Another Mustang caugt fires once in the past and is waiting for a desperated Mustang enthusiast to restore it. A black Fastback was spotted quite some years ago by Anthony, but never again since then. "Although life in Syria is really cheap, cars are extremely expensive due to very high taxes. I paid 25.000 US for mine in its condition, the restored convertible of my friend is worth 60.000 $ today, the same price like a BMW 316 in this country. Parts and engines however are cheap to get by. I know of a collector nearby that has 5 or 6 muscle cars restored. To be able to do it, he opened his own garage and hired 3 people only for his cars. One of these muscle cars is a Dodge Charger. He offered me a good amount for my car, but I had to turn him down ... no way, I would sell my car.. Syria is known for having invented a sense of business and capital in history. Together with its mentality of reaching out for Life and to communicate, plus eating and drinking, cars are the daily topic no. 1. Prestige, movability,
status - similar to Germany. There are probably more Mercedes, BMWs and
Audis like in any other similar country size.
