More than a nice try - a 6 month project with sweat and heartblood

K.L. Jones built his personal BULLITT custom based on a 2005 Mustang, originally painted in satin silver.

The base car for the BULLITT custom car
12,000 mile 2005 Satin Silver Mustang GT, Premium Coupe, 5-Speed, Interior Upgrade, Shaker 500 Stereo, 17" Aluminum Wheels, Charcoal Leather Interior, Mycolor Dash option.
The car was made in August 2005. A few more days and it would have been a 2006 model.

The Paint:

I did all the bodywork on the car myself. I also prepped and primed the car.
I painted the doorsills, inside the trunk, and under the hood. The body was painted 1968 Mustang Highland green metallic by my friend Greg Cox.
He and my other friend Brian Paige water sanded and buffed the car to a mirror like finish.

The bodywork and prep took about 2 months, it was painted and buffed in a week
.

The Mirror
I drastically altered a pair of aftermarket import car mirrors. They originally had two arms which lit up and an unsightly attaching plate.

I cut off one of the arms, and fiberglassed the hole. Then I filled in the light on the bottom arm and made an attaching plate that perfectly fit the mustang door out of aluminum and fiberglass.

I attached the mirror arm to the plate, smoothed it with body filler, and painted it black.
This job took about a week.

The Pedals
I installed aluminum gas, brake, clutch and dead pedals.
The gas pedal was a flat longer piece like the dead pedal, I had to cut it into sections and put it back together at angles to get the curve right.

The Drivetrain:
The engine has a computer chip upgrade, a Shelby Monte Carlo bar, and air filter with a cold air induction system that I made myself.

There is an SLP cat back exhaust system with stainless steel tips that I scuffed to look like brushed aluminum to match the wheels. There are no rear mufflers. I lowered the car 2 inches with lowering springs that I installed myself.
This took about a week

The side skirts
I always thought the stock Mustang skirts stuck out too far. For my car, I cut half and inch off the width and I cut off the not so stylish mud flap things behind the front wheels.

I filled in the gaps with aluminum and fiberglass. Now it is the same all the way down. These had to be permanently attached to the car.

This took about 3 weeks.

The Trunk:
I took the factory spoiler, third brake light, key lock, and GT emblems off the trunk, and filled in the holes.
This took about a week
