Unfortunately this
Decoder has been partially copied around the Web in the past decades,
neglecting the codex of the Mustang World to provide proper source information and to
respect the research efforts of other Mustangers.
Remember this is the original that's based on many peoples common effort.
This decoder went obsolete, when Kevin Marti published his book on tags (see note at the bottom), but we try to keep it online as a reference.

In San Jose gebaute Fahrzeuge haben -soweit bekannt - nur fuer eine kurze Testperiode in 1970 dieses Schild bekommen. | The Body Buck Tag is located either near the front headlight bucket, on the right or left inner fender (on top) or under the right fender near the cowl vent (on 71-73 Dearborn built cars). Cars built in San Jose used to have the body buck tag only for a short period in 1970 for testing (as far as is known today). |

Code-Entschluesselungen und ist in jedem Fall empfehlenswert. Fuer ca.

| Anmerkung: Diese Liste ist der Versuch, allgemeine Fragen nach Entschluesselung der Fertigungsschilder zu beantworten. Als ich vor 16 Jahren anfing, gab es nicht allzu viele Informationen hierzu. Durch muehsame Kleinarbeit, Verifizierung mit den uebrigen Fahrzeugdaten hunderter Mustangs, Lektuere einschlaegiger Mustang-Literatur, E-Mail-Informationen sowie professioneller Hilfe von Jeff Speegle und Kevin Marti wurde die Liste immer genauer. Dennoch gibt es je nach Baujahr unterschiedliche Bedeutungen fuer die einzelnen Codes. Ich glaube dennoch, dass diese Liste hilft, die meisten Bedeutungen herauszufinden. Ich danke allen Mustang-Enthusiasten, die dabei geholfen haben, Codes zu bestaetigen oder andere Bedeutungen herauszufinden. Man sollte auch noch beachten, dass man damals das Mustang-Band nicht angehalten hat, wenn etwas nicht verfuegbar war, das haette eingebaut werden sollen. Es kann also durchaus sein, dass die eine oder andere Option im Wagen fehlt, obwohl das Buck tag es ausweist. Dies duerfte insbesondere waehrend der Streiktage oder danach der Fall gewesen sein. |
Notice: This listing is an attempt to help on common questions on buck tag decoding, as there was nothing available 16 years ago,when I started it. I was wondering why, so collected all reasonable and verified datas from hundreds of cars, famous Mustang magazines, books and many other information and opinions on tags from contacts like Jeff Speegle and Kevin Marti. With more confirmation from other owners and Internet-visitors, this list grew and got more substance. As you may have noticed, unclear codes are marked with a question mark. Some codes could be verified for one model year only. Still it can help others with the same model year. Thanks to many enthusiasts out there this list has come to a stage, where by best knowledge covers the most common buck tag codes. I would appreciate any feedback or verifying, if you found those codes be true for your car. This will help us to make this listing even more accurate. Don't blame us for any inaccurate information given here. Still any code on the buck tag must not be put as something on your car.
